I Hear Abs Are Made in the Kitchen…

tuesday workout :: Nothing. Unless you count wandering around Target for an hour and a half. And I most certainly do because anything physical while I’m sick counts as a workout.

wednesday workout :: Nike Training Club workouts :: Core Crunch [15′] &  Ab Burner [15’]. Will try and run later after the Farmer’s Market and before dinner. Whew.

Before my pregnancy, I was ok with ‘just running’. That included minimal cross training [ok, more like random yoga] and zero strength training. This time around I want to become serious about running, meaning I want to do everything in my power to actually be good at this. I don’t want 30 minute 5ks anymore, or taking walk breaks during a hilly run. The track and I will become very good friends. I will not only GO to the gym, but I’ll actually DO productive things instead of just spinning and hightailing it out of there. It’s time to get serious.

My journey to my post partum body comes with additional goals, as stated above. I really want to focus on myself – do more strength training, focus on clean eating, avoid injury.

On the food aspect, I won’t focus so much on calories, but more so on the quality of food I’m eating. I’m notorious for having an amazing day filled with all the right workouts, coupled with ‘excellent for you’ foods – only to sit down at 9 pm to polish off a pint of Ben & Jerry’s while watching Seinfeld.

Currently, I’m scouring magazines and websites for exercises in addition to what I have access with on the Nike Training app. I also want to focus on things I can do here at home – with a toddler, newborn, and a husband in the military, time for myself is super limited right now. I’m proud of myself for starting the workouts, I just need to get the food aspect under control.

This starts today. I have read that it takes 21 days to form a habit. For 21 days I’ll focus on tweaking my daily regimen to better benefit my body and diet. I’m not one to cut foods out completely – sure, I’ll still indulge in ice cream; just not every night, a pint at a time.

Where do you get your at home workouts? DVDs? Websites? Magazines?

What is your favorite indulgence?

Will you pray for me?! [this ice cream thing is a big deal]

  1. Yes, Ben and Jerry’s is super evil!! Check out this website if you get a chance. They have short workouts to do at home, and they are pretty intense. However, they give modifications for almost everything.

Good luck with the workouts! I admire you for all that you are able to accomplish with two young children at home. I wouldn’t even being to know how to do that.

    1. I’ve NEVER seen this website, and now I’m obsessed with it. Thank you so very, very much!!!! They are perfect for time constraints!

  2. Not sure if you have cable, but if you do, exercise TV has some great stuff. Jillian Michaels ALWAYS kicks my butt and I also get great workouts from Fitness magazine. I actually clip all their workouts and keep it in a folder and then make my own routines based on what I want to do that particular day.

I have issues with bacon & Coca Cola. Letting go is hard, but I occasionally indulge. You will be in my prayers…

Plan a day of the week where you will allow yourself to eat ice cream. You will look forward to that day AND the ice cream will take soooooo good.

    1. Man, I miss my cable for FitTV 😦 I *JUST* started my workout folder, literally I bought one at Target yesterday… It’s hard to not have ice cream every night here – husband has a bowl after K goes to bed. You know those Army guys though, they could eat a cow and they would burn right through it at PT without blinking.

  3. I’ve never really thought about it, but I usually don’t have at home workouts. My workouts either require running (outside preferrably) or cycling or doing something at the gym. I wonder, could you Google “at home easy workouts”?

My favorite indulgence is food from my favorite bar, Keys on Main. They’ve got some serious good food.

I will definitely pray for you. Before I started working out 3 yrs ago, there were multiple times a week I’d sit down with a pint of Ben & Jerrys. It is SO good.

  4. Jillian Michaels ROCKS!! I have 30 Day Shred, Killer Buns and Thighs and Yoga Meltdown. All can be purchased at Target for $9-$10 and they all give a great workout in 20-30 minutes 🙂 Ice cream is my Achilles Heel too. I recently went on the Blood Type Diet and had to cut out dairy and gluten as part of it but I sometimes sneak an ice cream…Cold Stone. But it has cut down my intake of ice cream which was like you, once a day, hehe.

  5. I’m with you on strength training at home. I like the workout in Train Like a Mother. Have you got it yet? It’s great…and funny too. The workout is a tough one… That or I’m just really wimpy. Hang in there!
