Homemade Almond Butter!!!

this turned out GREAT!! i did a lot of research, and there are so many variations of this out there. friends suggested adding honey or flax oil, while the internet said to make it raw or add vegetable oil. i was super overwhelmed, so knowing that this wouldn’t be the last time i would ever do this i decided to just make plain-jane-regular-run-of-the-mill raw almond butter.

step one – cut a hole in the box!!! sorry. i had too. i used 2 cups of regular almonds.

step 2 – turn on your food processor [haha... i crack me up]

step 3 – process for about 15 minutes, and you’re done! you’re going to have to scrape the sides, and since i’m beyond impatient it seemed like i had to do it about every 10 seconds…
next time i’m going to let it run a little longer, but i’m by no means complaining with how it turned out. now that i know how much a cup will make, i definitely feel comfortable experimenting with additional ingredients. who knows what i’ll do with the next batch… i love being thrifty, and knowing that the almond butter i just made saved some money, AND doesn’t have preservatives totally blows my mind. love it!

  1. Looks so delicious! There are a crapton of ways to use this stuff, too. I think I'll whip up a batch and make cookies! Also, if you processed in batches it might not take so long or need to be scraped as often, perhaps. Ooh, do you think adding a bit of freshly squeezed orange juice would have helped thin it out a bit without adding any fat or stuff?
